Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How long does it take for my student to see improvements?
A. Achievements via Educational Therapy are incremental and are seen as the student progresses through the program. This can vary from a few months to a couple of years. Students are requested to complete all of their work according to the therapy schedule. Results are reflected with a combination of factors including how much time a student dedicates to practice within the session as well as after. Historically, we have heard clients notice most improvements after their first year of therapy.
Q. Is there any guarantee that my student will see improvement after taking Education Therapy?
A. We work with every student individually to ensure that they are building onto a variety cognitive skills regularly. Because every student learns in a different way and at a different pace, the rate and frequency of improvements vary greatly. However, most of our students have seen improvements in various dimensions such as improved confidence, improved handwriting, improved literacy, written and spoken language, ability to complete tasks in a timely manner, and self-image. If we at Suprex Learning can make a difference in the way your student sees him/herself, the way they perform in school, or carry out daily tasks, we consider ourselves successful.
Q. Where is Therapy provided?
A. Educational Therapy takes place in our center in Sugar Land, or at your respective school. Our center is located at 104 Industrial Blvd, Suite Q Sugar Land, TX 77478. Please see our “Contact Us” section for a map of our location.
Q. Do you help students with all types and levels of learning disabilities?
A. Our NILD techniques are designed to help students with mild to moderate Learning Disabilities. However, we recognize our students as individuals and not just “a disability”. Therefore, after an informal test, we can better assess if Educational Therapy would be helpful to your student
Q. What if I want to come in for an informal testing, but I’m not sure if I will do educational therapy for my student yet?
A. That is completely fine! We encourage prospective clients to come in for an informal testing regardless. This gives us a great opportunity to meet you and for you to see our facility, find out how our program works, and meet an NILD certified therapist. With an informal testing, you will get to see your student in action during the assessment and have any questions or concerns about your child’s disability answered by our therapist. You will get a better idea of what techniques we use, and remember, it is completely free. You have nothing to lose, but a lot to gain.
Q. Eighty minutes seems very lengthy for my student. Will he/she be able to function and be attentive for that amount of time?
A. Our Educational Therapy sessions are specifically designed with our students’ needs in mind. We recognize that all students, particularly ones with learning disabilities, need to work on being able to hold focus to tasks for consistent periods of time. Having sessions for eighty simultaneous minutes allows students to practice cognitive endurance by training their attention spans to progress over time. This especially is beneficial to them in the classroom, where they are required to hold attention for a long period of time. However, in educational therapy, students are never doing one task for more than twenty minutes. One session consists of multiple activities changing often to prevent monotony
Q. Can sessions be shortened if eighty minutes still does not work for my student
A. Absolutely. We understand that every student is different, and although we ask you to keep in mind what we said about building on to their attention span, we care about our clients. If you feel that you and your student will not be comfortable with eighty minute sessions, we offer customized sessions for sixty or seventy minutes as well. Please contact us for more information and pricing for these sessions.
Q. Is therapy an alternative to the medication my student is on for his/her learning disability?
A. Educational Therapy is intended to serve as ongoing treatment to learning disabilities rather than an immediate cure. Our goal is to produce independent learners and successful students who can eventually excel in school and life dependent on one source alone: themselves. However, while a student is undergoing therapy, they should stay on medication. Therapy is not meant to take place of it; it is a supplement
Q. What happens if I begin therapy and choose to not do it anymore?
A. Although we ask for a two-year commitment for optimum results, at Suprex learning, we understand that situations arise and life events occur that may cause a change of plans for you and your student. That is why we do not require you to sign any sort of contract. In the event that you choose to take a break from therapy or leave our program, you will lose no money and there is no obligation.
